US President Donald Trump Discloses Aspirin Dosage in Interview
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump revealed that he takes a higher daily dose of aspirin than his doctors have recommended. According to the president, he takes 325mg of aspirin daily for cardiac prevention.
Trump stated that he prefers this dosage because it helps “thin out” his blood and prevent thick blood from flowing through his heart. He also mentioned that taking the smaller recommended dose would cause him bruising, which is a common side effect of high-dose aspirin use.
The president has been taking the higher dose for 25 years, according to Trump. His physician, Sean Barbabella, confirmed that this dosage is at the high end of what is considered safe for cardiac prevention.
Trump’s health has been a subject of concern in recent months, with bruises spotted on his hands and a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency. The White House has described these conditions as “benign and common” and attributed the bruises to frequent handshaking and aspirin use.
In October, Trump underwent an imaging scan, which was initially reported as a CT (computed tomography) scan but later confirmed by Trump himself as simply a scan.
Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with blood-thinning properties. It can be purchased over the counter or prescribed by a doctor for various purposes, including pain relief and heart health. Common side effects of aspirin use include mild indigestion and bleeding more than usual.
The recommended dosage of aspirin varies depending on age and risk factors. The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends a lower dose of 81mg per day for adults aged 40-59 at risk of cardiovascular disease.
