Trump Invites Erdogan and el-Sisi to Join Gaza Peace Board

US President Donald Trump Invites Egyptian and Turkish Leaders to Join “Board of Peace” for Gaza Governance

The White House announced on Friday that US President Donald Trump has invited the leaders of Egypt and Turkey to join his proposed “board of peace” to oversee the post-war transition in Gaza. The board, which will be chaired by Trump, aims to supervise the temporary governance of Gaza under a plan unveiled in October.

According to Turkish presidential communications director Burhanettin Duran, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received an invitation from Trump to “become a founding member” of the board. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated that Egypt is reviewing a separate invitation from Trump for Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to join the board.

The White House has announced several members of the proposed board, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The establishment of the board is part of Trump’s plan to end Israel’s war on Gaza.

The board will include a Palestinian technocratic body, which will be overseen by the international board for a transitional period. The US has announced plans to establish an international stabilisation force in Gaza, with Army Major-General Jasper Jeffers appointed as commander.

Palestinians in Gaza have expressed concerns about the composition of the proposed board, citing the involvement of individuals who have been major supporters of Israel and its war on the Gaza Strip. They have emphasized the need for their voices to be heard on the board, particularly regarding issues of safety and self-determination. The White House has not detailed the responsibilities of each member of the “founding executive board”, but plans to announce additional members in the coming weeks.

A UN Security Council resolution adopted in mid-November authorised the board and countries working with it to establish an international stabilisation force in Gaza.
