Trumps World Cup 2026 Travel Bans Spark International Fan Reaction

US Travel Ban Affects Senegal and Ivory Coast Fans Ahead of World Cup

Fans attending the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco are facing travel restrictions due to a US government ban on entry from certain African nations. The ban, announced by President Donald Trump’s administration, includes partial restrictions on countries such as Senegal and the Ivory Coast, which have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The restrictions apply to individuals who do not already possess visas or are not dual nationals of countries exempt from the ban. However, players, team officials, and immediate relatives of participating teams will be allowed to enter the US without restrictions.

Senegal fans expressed disappointment at the news, with some stating that they would not be able to attend matches in the US due to the travel ban. “We really want to participate, but we don’t know how,” said Fatou Diedhiou, president of a group of female Senegal fans.

Ivory Coast coach Emerse Fae acknowledged that his team faced similar challenges when attempting to reach Morocco for the Africa Cup. He expressed optimism that a solution could be found for supporters by the time of the World Cup.

The US will co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Canada and Mexico, marking its first time hosting the tournament since 1994. Senegal and Ivory Coast are set to play their group stage matches in the US on June 16 and June 26, respectively.

The travel ban has sparked concerns among fans who had planned to attend matches in the US. The restrictions have been attributed to “screening and vetting deficiencies” by President Trump’s administration.
