Ukraine Railway Hit by Russian Attacks, Zelenskyy Warns of Logistics Terror

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed military leaders to respond to recent Russian attacks on railway infrastructure and logistics routes. The comments were made following an increase in strikes, including one last week that resulted in the death of five people in a train car in the Kharkiv region.

Russian forces have intensified their efforts, targeting key transportation hubs such as Kupiansk and Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. Zelenskyy stated that the Russian army is focused on disrupting logistics, particularly railway infrastructure.

Ukrainian state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia has warned that several routes in eastern Ukraine are becoming increasingly hazardous, advising passengers to use alternative transportation methods. In the Sumy region, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to monitor drone threats and suspend train services near bomb shelters if necessary.

The attacks have resulted in significant damage to the Ukrainian power grid, leaving many without essential services such as heating, light, and running water. The situation is further complicated by ongoing mass aerial attacks, including a recent incident that killed 12 miners in a bus.

US-brokered talks on ending the conflict are set to resume this week, with discussions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy plans to attend the meeting, following a brief postponement of the negotiations.

The US administration has been involved in efforts to find compromises between the two sides over the past year. However, key issues remain unresolved, including the fate of occupied territories and access to certain areas. Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev met with American officials in Miami, Florida, last weekend, but details of the meeting were not disclosed.

A sticking point in the negotiations is Ukraine’s refusal to cede territory that has been occupied by Russian forces. Moscow demands possession of additional Ukrainian land in eastern Ukraine, which it has not been able to capture on the battlefield.
