Pakistani Interior Minister Arrives in Tehran for Talks on US-Iran Peace Deal
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to meet with his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni. According to reports, Naqvi’s visit is part of ongoing efforts by Pakistan to facilitate talks between the United States and Iran.
The two countries have been exchanging proposals for peace since a temporary ceasefire was agreed last month. However, hostilities have not come to a complete halt, and both sides remain far apart on several key issues.
Naqvi’s visit marks his second trip to Tehran in less than a week, suggesting potential new diplomatic efforts to resolve the US-Iran conflict. The Iranian government has confirmed that Naqvi will hold meetings with senior officials, including Momeni.
US President Donald Trump stated that peace negotiations with Iran are “borderline” between talks and renewed strikes. He also expressed concerns about the need for concrete results from the discussions.
According to reports, Naqvi’s visit aims to bring Iranian and US positions closer together. The Iranian government has confirmed that it is reviewing the latest US peace proposal conveyed via Pakistan.
Iran submitted a revised 14-point peace plan to end the war in April. However, significant differences remain between the two sides, particularly regarding Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and its ability to enrich uranium.
The US wants to impose a 20-year moratorium on Iran enriching any uranium, while Iran has resisted this demand. The question of Iran’s ability to enrich uranium at all is another contentious issue.
Additionally, the Strait of Hormuz remains a point of contention, with Iran restricting shipping through the narrow waterway since early March.
