US and Israel Bomb Iran, Thousands Flee to Safety Immediately

Hundreds of Iranians and foreign workers have crossed into Turkey’s Van province in recent days, fleeing the US-Israeli bombardment of Iran. The border crossing at Kapikoy has seen a steady flow of people, many of whom have traveled for days by train or car to reach safety.

Travellers from Iran include families and lone individuals, who have been driven out by the conflict due to various reasons such as bombs falling on their cities or losing contact with loved ones. Some have also fled due to economic instability, including factory workers like Mohammad Fauzi, 46, who was working in the marble and granite sector before leaving Iran.

Others, like Jalileh Jabari, 63, from Tehran, have been forced to leave due to the situation becoming unbearable. She is traveling to Istanbul, where her daughter studies, with plans to return if the situation improves.

In contrast, some individuals, such as Leila, 45, who occasionally assists academics working with a German historical research institution in Istanbul, have decided to head back to Iran after losing contact with their family in Shiraz. She is planning to remain in Iran until the war is over due to concerns about her family’s safety.

The border crossing has seen a mix of emotions among those arriving, including fear, exhaustion, and relief. The situation remains uncertain, with many people still waiting for news from loved ones or facing uncertainty about their own safety.
