US and Israeli forces continue military operations in Iran

US-Iran Talks in Limbo Amid Escalating Tensions

A second round of US-Iran talks is set to take place on Monday in Pakistan, according to a statement released by President Donald Trump on Sunday. The talks are scheduled to occur two days before the ceasefire deal that ended over a month of conflict between the two nations is set to expire.

On Sunday, US Marines captured an Iranian-flagged container ship near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has since pledged to retaliate against the United States in response to the incident.

The capture of the ship comes hours after President Trump announced his team’s arrival in Islamabad for talks with Iranian officials. The President reiterated his threat to target Iran’s power plants and bridges if a deal is not reached.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, reaffirming the country’s readiness to mediate the conflict. The ceasefire agreement, which has been in place since the end of the war, is set to expire on Wednesday.

The Islamabad talks have been further complicated by the recent developments, leaving the outcome uncertain at this time.
