US Military Action in Venezuela Sparks Concerns Over Tensions with Iran
Washington, DC - The United States has announced the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, sparking concerns over potential escalation of tensions with Iran. Israeli politician Yair Lapid warned Tehran that the regime should pay close attention to developments in Venezuela.
The forcible removal of Maduro from power came after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which Trump threatened new strikes against Iran. Analysts say this move raises the prospect of war with Iran.
Jamal Abdi, president of the National Iranian American Council, stated that “a new lawlessness makes everything less stable and war more likely.” Negar Mortazavi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, noted that Trump’s actions in Venezuela demonstrate his maximalist aims, further diminishing the chances of diplomacy.
The US raid on Maduro has prompted Iran to condemn the action, calling on the United Nations to intervene and halt what it considers an “unlawful aggression.” The Iranian government views the US military presence as a threat to regional and international peace and security.
US officials have accused Maduro of leading a drug organization, and Trump’s administration has been vocal about its desire for Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also emphasized Maduro’s ties to Iran, accusing Caracas of providing support to Hezbollah.
The Iranian government has responded with defiance, with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stating that “we will not give in to the enemy” and vowing to bring the enemy to its knees. The situation remains tense, with many observers warning of a potential path towards conflict between Israel, Iran, and the US.
