US Conducts Large-Scale Strike Against Venezuela, Captures President
The United States has carried out a “large scale strike” against Venezuela, according to a statement from US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. The operation, which was conducted in conjunction with US law enforcement, resulted in the capture and removal of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
According to reports, the strikes were carried out early on Saturday, sparking a dramatic escalation in tensions between the two countries. Maduro had previously accused the United States of an “extremely serious military aggression” against Venezuela’s territory and people.
Reactions from other countries have been swift and varied. Colombian President Gustavo Petro issued a statement condemning the attack, calling for peace, respect for international law, and protection of human dignity to prevail over any form of armed confrontation. Petro also announced the deployment of military forces to the Venezuelan border.
Cuba’s government described the US action as “state terrorism” directed not only at the Venezuelan people but at “Our America” more broadly. Iran’s foreign ministry strongly condemned the attack, calling it a flagrant violation of Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moscow also condemned the act of armed aggression, stating that it was essential to prevent further escalation and focus on finding a way out through dialogue.
US Senator Mike Lee reported that the United States had completed its military action in Venezuela after capturing Maduro. Other countries are continuing to issue statements and take actions in response to the attack.
