US Consumers Express Disappointment Over Rising Gas Prices Following Iran Attack

US Oil Prices Surge Amidst Ongoing Conflict in Middle East

The price of crude oil has increased significantly, rising from approximately $67 per barrel before the conflict began on February 28 to nearly $97 on Monday. The conflict is affecting transportation and production in one of the most energy-rich regions on earth.

According to GasBuddy, the average price of gas in the US has risen by 51 cents per gallon over the last week. This increase is attributed to disruptions caused by the war, including the shuttering of the Strait of Hormuz, a key node in global transit and shipping.

The impact of the conflict on energy prices is being felt globally, with many countries experiencing price increases for goods such as fertiliser, which are essential for agricultural production. The US has already seen significant price hikes, with some analysts predicting that gas prices could reach $3.50 to $4 per gallon by next week and $5 diesel this week.

The war’s effects on the global economy are being closely monitored, with many countries taking measures to mitigate the impact of rising energy costs. Pakistan announced a series of austerity measures and cuts to fuel subsidies on Monday, while Bangladesh shuttered universities and restricted fuel use as a result of the conflict.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is clear that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is having far-reaching consequences for the global economy.
