House Passes Short-Term DHS Funding Bill
The US House of Representatives has passed a short-term funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The bill, which was approved in a vote, provides temporary funding for various DHS programs and services.
In a separate development, Senate Republicans have rejected a proposed deal with Democrats to fund DHS, which would have included funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and US Border Patrol. As a result, the shutdown of certain DHS agencies continues.
The House bill includes funding for most DHS programs, except those related to ICE and border patrol. The Senate had previously passed a similar bill, but with some differences.
In a statement, lawmakers said that the House bill was passed after negotiations between Democrats and Republicans. However, the rejection of the Senate deal by Republicans means that the shutdown will continue until a new agreement can be reached.
The DHS funding bill is expected to be sent to the President for signature. The White House has not yet commented on the bill.
