US makes unreasonable demands in Iran negotiations over war

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a response to a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict between Iran and Israel, according to Iranian state media. The proposal was made via Pakistan on Sunday.

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s counterproposal, calling it “totally unacceptable”. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the US demands as “unreasonable” and “one-sided”.

Baghaei stated that Iran’s proposal includes an end to the conflict, unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz, release of frozen assets abroad, and safe passage through the strait. He emphasized that these demands are legitimate and generous.

Trump made a statement on his Truth Social platform, expressing his opposition to Iran’s counterproposal without providing details. Analyst Andrea Dessi noted that both sides appear to be digging in on their respective positions, which could lead to further disruptions in the region.

The rejection of Iran’s proposal has caused a surge in oil prices, with international benchmark Brent crude rising 4.65% to $99.95 a barrel. European countries have also announced plans to deploy warships to the region to ensure safe navigation of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked since March.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei addressed these plans, stating that Iran had warned European countries not to be swayed by US and Israeli “hubris acts”. He emphasized that any intervention in the Strait of Hormuz would exacerbate prices and bring further complications.
