US Military Options Considered in Event of Potential Iranian Conflict

US President Donald Trump Posts Message on Truth Social Platform

In a social media post on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump addressed Iranian protesters, stating that “help is on its way.” The message was part of a series of statements made by Trump regarding his administration’s response to ongoing protests in Iran.

Protests in Iran began in late December 2025 and have since escalated into a broader challenge to the country’s clerical leadership. The US military’s al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar has seen personnel advised to leave by Wednesday evening, heightening fears of a potential US strike and Iranian retaliation.

Trump’s message on Truth Social was accompanied by a reference to his “Make Iran Great Again” slogan. He also stated that if Iran “violently kills peaceful protesters,” the United States will come to their rescue. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has previously stated that diplomacy remains Trump’s first option for Iran, but he is willing to use military force if necessary.

In June 2025, during a conflict between Iran and Israel, the US bombed three Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The US military presence in the Middle East has since decreased, with the USS Gerald Ford, a US Navy aircraft carrier, being deployed to the Caribbean as part of Operation Southern Spear.

The operation aims to target alleged “narco-terrorists” in Latin America. US forces have been involved in strikes against Venezuelan boats in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean, which the US alleges were carrying drugs. The Trump administration has also taken action against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who faces charges related to weapons and drug trafficking.

The situation in Iran remains fluid, with ongoing protests and tensions between the country’s clerical leadership and demonstrators.
