US-Iran Diplomatic Talks Continue Amid Tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Iran is “prepared for peace” and diplomacy with the United States, suggesting that a possible deal between the two countries remains close despite recent threats from Washington. In an interview with US television network MS NOW on Friday, Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program has no military solution.
Araghchi also criticized the large-scale US military build-up in the Middle East, which includes aircraft carriers and fighter jets, calling it “unnecessary and unhelpful.” He stated that a diplomatic solution is within reach and can be achieved through fair negotiations. The Iranian diplomat expressed concerns about the potential consequences of military action, stating that it would only complicate the situation and bring about disastrous outcomes.
US President Donald Trump was asked about the possibility of limited strikes against Iran to boost Washington’s negotiating position. Trump replied that he is considering this option. Araghchi warned that Iranians are “proud people” who respond to respectful language, citing past US administrations’ failed attempts to pressure Iran through war and sanctions.
The US and Iran have held two rounds of talks over the past month, with officials from both countries describing the negotiations as positive. However, the Trump administration has continued to amass military assets around Iran. The deadline for a deal between the two countries was extended from 10 days to up to 15 days, according to Trump.
The status of Iran’s nuclear program remains uncertain, with international monitors unable to confirm its details. Tehran insists on its right to uranium enrichment, which it claims does not violate its commitments under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The US wants Iran to dismantle its nuclear program entirely, while Iran is willing to place rigorous monitoring and limits on its enrichment operations.
Araghchi stated that the next step in the talks will be for Iran to submit a written proposal for a deal to US negotiators. He emphasized the importance of achieving a fair and win-win solution, stating that a diplomatic approach is necessary to avoid disastrous consequences.
