US President Praises Syrian Leader Al-Sharaa Over Offensive Against Kurdish Forces

US President Donald Trump has made a statement regarding his recent conversation with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The two leaders spoke on the phone before al-Sharaa’s departure for Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to a statement from the Syrian presidency, al-Sharaa emphasized Syria’s commitment to its territorial integrity and national sovereignty during the call. He also discussed the importance of international cooperation in preventing the return of terrorist groups, including ISIL (ISIS).

Trump stated that he had a positive conversation with al-Sharaa and expressed satisfaction with developments in Syria. The US president did not provide further details about the specifics of their discussion.

The Syrian army has recently launched an offensive against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which was previously backed by Washington. The SDF announced on January 18 that it had withdrawn from several northeastern Syrian cities, following the Syrian army’s actions.

Al-Sharaa is scheduled to meet with Putin in Moscow on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and the current situation in the Middle East.
