US President Trump claims Iran nuclear deal was largely negotiated

US President Announces Ceasefire Talks Progress, Reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Washington D.C. - United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in ceasefire talks with Iran has been largely negotiated. The agreement will include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to the President.

Trump made the statement after holding a call with leaders and officials from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, and Bahrain. He also held a separate call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The announcement comes as part of ongoing ceasefire talks between the US and Iran, which began on February 28. Fighting has largely remained paused since April 8, barring a handful of flare-ups.

According to Trump’s statement, “final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly.” The President stated that the agreement is subject to finalization by US and Iranian negotiators, as well as other countries involved.

Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, concluded a visit to Iran on Saturday, according to a statement from Pakistan’s military. The visit reportedly resulted in “encouraging progress” towards reaching a final understanding.

The MOU is expected to address key sticking points, including the future of Iran’s nuclear programme, its influence over the Strait of Hormuz, and access to frozen Iranian funds.
