US President Trump says Russia-Ukraine truce talks nearing completion

US President Donald Trump Welcomes Ukrainian Leader to Florida Estate

In a meeting at his Florida estate, US President Donald Trump welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday. The two leaders discussed a proposed peace deal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

According to Trump, diplomacy is nearing its final stages, with discussions expected to conclude soon. He stated that if an agreement cannot be reached, the conflict may continue for an extended period, resulting in further loss of life. Trump expressed confidence in the possibility of a mutually beneficial deal, citing guarantees for Ukraine’s security and European involvement.

Zelenskyy confirmed that he and Trump would discuss territorial concessions, which have been a point of contention for his country. He noted that negotiations between Ukrainian and US officials had previously explored step-by-step progress towards peace. The proposal includes security guarantees similar to those offered to NATO member countries.

Analysts have expressed skepticism about the talks, with Oleksandr Kraiev stating that Ukraine’s people have little faith in a lasting peace process due to previous failed attempts. Zelenskyy’s delegation was reportedly caught off guard by Trump’s decision to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin before meeting with him.

Trump spoke with Putin earlier on Sunday and plans to discuss the matter further after meeting with Zelenskyy. The Kremlin has stated that a mere ceasefire would only prolong the conflict, emphasizing the need for Ukraine to compromise on territorial issues.
