US President Trump suggests Iran conflict may be resolved within two to three weeks

US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States can potentially end its involvement in the conflict with Iran within two to three weeks. When asked by reporters if successful diplomacy was a prerequisite for winding down the conflict, Trump replied that “Iran doesn’t have to make a deal, no.” He also stated that the US would be leaving “very soon,” with a possible timeline of 2-3 weeks.

Trump’s comments come as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate. Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi has denied any ongoing negotiations with Washington, despite direct and indirect exchanges of messages. Trump had previously claimed that Iran was engaged in negotiations and “begging” for a deal.

The conflict has disrupted energy supplies and shaken the global economy, with domestic petrol prices jumping past an average of $4 a gallon due to Iran’s attacks on Gulf oil facilities. The US president has also criticized allied countries, including the UK, for refusing to join the war effort to secure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trita Parsi, a foreign policy expert on Iran, has cautioned that Trump’s statements should be treated with caution. Parsi noted that the conflict has spread across the region and killed thousands of people, making it difficult for the US to simply “walk out” of the situation.
