US President Trump warns of potential friendly takeover in Cuba

US President Donald Trump Reiterates Cuba’s Readiness for Negotiations Amid Energy Crisis

In a press conference held on Monday, US President Donald Trump stated that his administration remains focused on Cuba, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio “dealing” with the island nation. According to Trump, the White House is exploring various options, including a potential “friendly takeover” of Cuba.

The US has been experiencing an energy crisis since January, when Venezuelan forces halted fuel exports from Caracas to Havana, cutting off Cuba’s primary source of oil. This move has led to an economic downturn for the island nation. Trump stated that Cuba’s government is facing significant challenges and may be willing to negotiate with Washington.

White House officials have suggested that Cuba is on the brink of an economic collapse. Trump has previously mentioned that Cuba’s leaders are eager to make a deal with the US, although the Cuban government has denied reports of high-level talks. However, it appears that informal discussions between Raul Guillermo Rodriguez Castro and US officials may be underway.

Trump’s administration has been critical of Venezuela and Cuba, aligning its policies with the “Monroe Doctrine,” a 19th-century concept emphasizing American dominance in the Western Hemisphere. This stance marks a departure from previous US presidents during the Cold War era.

The White House has not provided further details on its plans for Cuba, but Trump’s comments indicate that the administration remains committed to exploring various options for engagement with the island nation.
