US Senators Call for Investigation of Iranian Attack on Girls School

US Senators Call for Investigation into Iranian School Bombing

A group of top Democratic senators has issued a joint statement calling for a full and impartial review of the bombing of an elementary school in Minab, Iran, which killed at least 170 people. The senators expressed their concern over the incident, which occurred during US-Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28.

The Pentagon is currently investigating the incident, with Secretary Pete Hegseth stating that the department’s ongoing investigation will be thorough and provide clear answers to Congress and the public. However, some lawmakers have questioned whether the rules of engagement in the attacks against Iran are being followed.

New footage of the attack suggests that a Tomahawk missile was used, which is not possessed by either Israel or Iran. The bombing has become emblematic of the growing civilian death toll from the conflict, with US and Israeli strikes killing 1,255 people mostly civilians since the start of the war in Iran.

According to Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian, many civilians have been killed in attacks on schools, medical centers, residential buildings, street markets, and other civilian targets. The health minister stated that victims were often caught off guard while at home or working.

The senators’ statement emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability in the investigation into the Minab bombing. They are calling for clear answers about how and why the tragedy occurred, as well as whether any policy decisions may have contributed to it.
