US to Withdraw from 66 Global Organisations Under Trump Administration

US Withdraws from 66 International Organizations

The White House has announced that the United States will be withdrawing from 66 international organizations, including 31 United Nations entities and 35 non-UN organizations. The withdrawal is attributed to the Trump administration’s decision to exit certain forums focused on climate change, peace, and democracy.

According to a recent memorandum, the US will no longer be part of several key organizations, citing concerns over diversity and “woke” initiatives that are deemed contrary to American interests. This move includes the withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, which will take effect on January 27, 2026, resulting in the country’s disassociation from its carbon-cutting pledges.

The administration has also targeted the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a foundational treaty established in 1992 that serves as the basis for international climate negotiations. By withdrawing from the UNFCCC, the US aims to exit the entire framework for climate discussions.

Notably, the US will remain part of several organizations deemed essential for security and humanitarian purposes, including the UN Security Council, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The administration’s decision is expected to face legal challenges due to its unilateral withdrawal from Senate-ratified treaties.
