A 42-year-old woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in supplying illegal drugs that led to the death of actor Matthew Perry in 2023. Jasveen Sangha pleaded guilty to five felony drug counts, including maintaining a drug-involved premises and distributing ketamine resulting in death.
During a court appearance on Wednesday, Sangha expressed remorse for her actions, stating she took full responsibility for her choices that ultimately led to tragic consequences. District Judge Sherilyn Garnett agreed with the recommended prison term by federal prosecutors and handed down the 15-year sentence.
Sangha was first arrested in 2024 and has been in custody for nearly a year and eight months. Her defense lawyers had requested a sentence limited to time already served, but the judge rejected this request. The harsher sentence was attributed to Sangha’s continued sale of ketamine after Perry’s death, which showed a lack of remorse.
Perry had struggled with substance abuse and prescription painkillers before his death. Federal officials stated that he became addicted to ketamine during infusions at a clinic meant to help him with anxiety and depression issues. Prosecutors alleged that Sangha sold 51 vials of the drug to a go-between, who then sold them to Perry through his personal assistant.
Sangha’s sentence was steeper than those of two doctors who have been sentenced in connection to Perry’s death. Her lawyer, Mark Geragos, expressed frustration with the sentence, stating that Sangha was not five times more culpable than the individuals responsible for injecting her with the drug or the doctor who provided it.
Sangha will serve 15 years in prison for her role in supplying illegal drugs that led to Perry’s death.
