Spanish International Lamine Yamal Suffers Hamstring Injury, Status for World Cup Uncertain
Barcelona has confirmed that 18-year-old left-back Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the La Liga season due to a hamstring injury sustained while scoring a game-winning penalty in a match against Celta Vigo on Wednesday. The injury occurred when Yamal left the field after scoring from the penalty spot, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming World Cup 2026.
According to Barcelona’s medical team, Yamal has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury affecting his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The club stated that Yamal will follow a conservative treatment plan. As a result, Yamal is expected to be available for the World Cup, but his participation in the tournament remains uncertain.
Spain is set to begin its World Cup campaign on June 15 against Cape Verde in Atlanta, Georgia. This will mark Yamal’s debut at the tournament. The Spanish team leads Real Madrid by nine points in the La Liga standings and will face their rivals in a Clasico match on May 10. With six games remaining in the season, Barcelona and Real Madrid have upcoming matches against Real Betis and Getafe, respectively.
Yamal’s injury has raised questions about his availability for Spain’s World Cup campaign, but the club remains optimistic that he will be fit for the tournament.
