Argentina faces Austria in World Cup group stage match

Argentina to Face Austria in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J Match

Lionel Messi will lead Argentina in their second Group J match against Austria on Monday at the Dallas Stadium in Texas. The match is scheduled for 12pm local time (17:00 GMT).

Messi, who scored a hat-trick in Argentina’s opening match against Algeria, has now reached 16 World Cup goals. He made his sixth World Cup appearance and will be playing his 200th international game.

Argentina are defending champions, while Austria beat Jordan in their opening group game. The teams arrive in Dallas knowing that a win could secure their place in the knockout stages.

Austria captain David Alaba stated that Argentina’s quality extends beyond Messi, describing them as a team with “what kind of opponent we’re up against, what kind of quality they have in their ranks.”

Argentina assistant coach Pablo Aimar warned that Austria would pose a different challenge to Algeria, stating that Ralf Rangnick’s side is a physical team capable of causing problems.

The match will be followed by live text commentary on Al Jazeera Sport. The 2026 World Cup has 13 different kickoff times, and fans can use the Al Jazeera Sport widget to find out exactly when their team is playing in local time.
