Barcelona Secures 1-1 Draw with Newcastle United in Champions League Tie
In the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, Barcelona and Newcastle United played out a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park. The match saw several key moments that ultimately decided the outcome.
Newcastle United took an early lead through Harvey Barnes, who scored in the 86th minute after receiving a cross from Jacob Murphy. However, Barcelona equalized with a penalty kick by Lamine Yamal in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Yamal’s shot was directed into the bottom corner as Aaron Ramsdale made an incorrect attempt to save it.
Earlier in the match, Newcastle United’s Joelinton thought he had scored but was ruled offside after hitting the rebound of Barnes’ shot off the post. The second leg will take place at Barcelona on March 18.
In other Champions League matches, Galatasaray secured a 1-0 victory over Liverpool with Mario Lemina’s diving header in the seventh minute. Bayern Munich dominated Atalanta 6-1, while Atletico Madrid thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 in their respective first-leg ties.
