Canadian Visa Granted to Ivory Coasts Elye Wahi Hours After Initial Denial

Ivory Coast Forward Elye Wahi Receives Travel Authorization for World Cup Match

Elye Wahi, a forward for Ivory Coast’s national team, has received travel authorization to join his team in Toronto for their upcoming match against Germany on Saturday. The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) announced the development earlier today, following an earlier statement that Wahi would not be able to participate due to visa issues.

According to the FIF, Wahi had been linked to an investigation into suspected sport corruption, but it has since been reported that he will not face charges. The player was questioned by French authorities last month as part of the investigation, which centered on unusual betting patterns surrounding a yellow card he received in a Ligue 1 match.

Wahi’s lawyer stated earlier that the player had been released after questioning and is not subject to any judicial restrictions. The FIF has expressed full confidence in Wahi, stating that it was not officially notified of any legal or administrative proceedings concerning him.

The Ivory Coast national team will face Germany on Saturday in their Group E match at the World Cup. Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, who is also part of the team, had previously been denied a Canadian visa due to seven charges of rape and one count of sexual assault in the United Kingdom.
