Brazilian Football Federation Announces Injury Update for Neymar
The Brazilian football confederation has confirmed that forward Neymar will not participate in Brazil’s second World Cup match against Haiti due to a lingering calf injury. According to the federation, Neymar will remain in New Jersey to continue his recovery process.
Neymar, who is the leading international goal scorer for Brazil with 79 goals, had previously rejoined his teammates on the training field after being back on the field for physical conditioning exercises. However, he has yet to practice in full sessions with the rest of the team since reporting to the squad while nursing an injured right leg.
The Brazilian confederation stated that Neymar will continue his recovery at the facilities of the team’s hotel. The 34-year-old had undergone tests on his right calf on Monday to determine the progress of the injury, which he sustained during a match with Santos on May 17.
Brazil began their tournament with a 1-1 draw against Morocco on Saturday. Neymar is set to make his fourth World Cup appearance and was expected to play in the upcoming match against Haiti in Philadelphia.
