Carlos Alcaraz Achieves Career Grand Slam Victory Over Novak Djokovic
In a thrilling Australian Open final, Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam by defeating Novak Djokovic in four sets. The 22-year-old Spanish tennis player secured his seventh Grand Slam title with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 victory over the 24-time Grand Slam champion at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday.
Alcaraz’s win marked a historic moment in tennis, surpassing his idol and compatriot Rafael Nadal, who achieved the same feat two years earlier. The young player also became the youngest to claim seven Grand Slam titles, adding to his previous wins at the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.
The match saw both players battle through five long sets in their semifinals, with recovery being a key factor after their physical struggles. Djokovic dominated the early stages of the first set, but Alcaraz pulled back to claim the second set 6-2. The third set was closely contested, with Alcaraz taking control and breaking for 5-2.
In the fourth set, Djokovic saved six break points in an 11-minute opening service game to stay alive, but ultimately succumbed to Alcaraz’s pressure. The young player sealed the victory with a serve, ensuring he remained world number one and cementing his place as one of tennis’ top players.
Djokovic was gracious in defeat, congratulating Alcaraz on his side of the court and exchanging warm words with the champion. After the match, Alcaraz revealed that his legs were shaking as he served for the championship, but managed to compose himself and secure the win.
