Four killed in Ukrainian city of Kharkiv by Russian drone attack

A Drone Attack Hits Kharkiv City in Ukraine, Causing Casualties

A Russian drone attack on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv has resulted in at least four fatalities and six injuries, according to local officials. The incident occurred shortly after the US accused Russia of escalating the conflict at the UN Security Council.

The attack targeted a medical facility for children near the outskirts of the city, causing a fire. Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported an increase in the death toll from four to six people. Meanwhile, grid operator Ukrenergo announced emergency power cuts in Kyiv due to damage caused by an overnight Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy networks.

The US had previously accused Russia of “dangerous and inexplicable escalation” of the war at the UN Security Council meeting on Monday. The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed that Ukrainian capital Kyiv came under a short but intense attack from Russian missiles overnight. Telegram channels monitoring Ukraine reported 20 ballistic missiles launched within an hour.

The US had expressed alarm about Russia’s use of a nuclear-capable Oreshnik ballistic missile last week, which resulted in a significant number of casualties in Ukraine. The incident occurred as Ukraine and its Western allies announced progress in an agreement to defend the country from further Russian attacks if a ceasefire is agreed.
