Germany’s National Team Seeks Redemption at World Cup
Germany, the four-time FIFA World Cup winners, has made significant strides under new coach Julian Nagelsmann. The team’s performance in their recent World Cup qualification group was impressive, with five wins from six matches. The squad boasts a mix of youthful talent and experienced players, including Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rudiger, and veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Neuer, who had previously retired from international play, has returned for the tournament, citing his desire to contribute to Germany’s success. The 40-year-old goalkeeper is expected to be the team’s first choice, with Nagelsmann praising his ability to create special moments on the field.
Germany’s squad features a number of promising young players, including Musiala, Wirtz, and Lennart Karl. Musiala, who was the standout performer at Euro 2024, has been hampered by injuries in recent weeks but is expected to return to full fitness before the World Cup begins on June 11.
Wirtz, who had a difficult season with Liverpool, appears to have found his form and offers Germany versatility across the front line. Karl, an 18-year-old Bayern attacker, has gained attention for his impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga.
Germany’s World Cup squad is complete, with Nagelsmann announcing a 26-man team that includes several players who are expected to start. The team will be looking to overcome their disappointing performances in the last two World Cups, which saw them eliminated in the group stages in 2018 and 2022.
