Haifa Oil Refinery Hit in Iranian Missile Attack

Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen stated that no significant damage was reported after an Iranian attack on Haifa’s Oil Refineries Ltd facility. The attack occurred as part of Iran’s retaliation for strikes on its energy infrastructure, which began following Israel and the US launching a war against the country last month.
According to Cohen, power was briefly disrupted at the refinery before being restored for most customers. He described the damage to the power grid in the north as localized and not significant. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also stated that his country would show “zero restraint” if its infrastructure is struck again.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed firing towards Haifa and Ashdod, a city in southern Israel. The attack on Haifa’s oil refinery was reportedly in retaliation for the Israeli attack on Iran’s South Pars offshore gasfield. It is unclear whether the Ashdod facility was hit.
Separately, four people were wounded in a rocket attack in Kiryat Shmona, a town in northern Israel. Medics treated a 60-year-old man with serious shrapnel injuries, a 68-year-old woman with a head injury, and two men in their 20s with shrapnel wounds.
The conflict between Israel and Iran has escalated since the US-Israeli war on Iran began late last month. The Israeli military has launched an intensified aerial and ground assault on Lebanon, resulting in over 1,000 deaths. Hezbollah has responded by firing missile barrages into northern Israel.
