India fast-tracks 15-year-old Sooryavanshi for T20 team selection

India’s T20 Squad Takes Shape Ahead of Upcoming Matches

The Indian cricket team is set to announce its 30-member probables list on Saturday, which will likely feature 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the youngest player. According to sources, Sooryavanshi has been included in the list for two T20 matches in Ireland and five games in England, marking his debut for India.

Sooryavanshi had a standout performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), finishing top of the batting charts with 776 runs, including five half-centuries. He was also named most valuable player in the IPL and received several other awards. The left-handed opener is expected to make history as the youngest debutant for India.

Meanwhile, skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s position is under scrutiny, with some insiders predicting he may lose his place in the T20 squad. Yadav has struggled with form, scoring just 242 runs in nine World Cup innings. He will be replaced by Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title in 2024 and captained Punjab Kings to a runners-up finish this year.

Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma are also in contention for the captaincy, with selectors set to name the squad over the weekend. The team is expected to face two T20 matches in Ireland before heading to England.
