Iran Restores Gas Production at Three Offshore Platforms After Israeli Attacks
Production has been resumed at three offshore platforms in the South Pars gasfield, according to Pars Oil and Gas Company CEO Touraj Dehqani. The platforms were attacked by Israel in March, but no damage was reported. Dehqani stated that production from the affected platforms is being rerouted to other processing plants while repairs continue.
The Israeli military launched an attack on the South Pars gasfield in mid-March, prompting retaliatory Iranian missile and drone strikes on energy infrastructure across the region. In early April, Israel also targeted Iran’s largest petrochemical facility, the South Pars Petrochemical complex, in Asaluyeh.
According to Al Jazeera reporter Tohid Asadi, the resumption of gas production at South Pars is significant for Iran. Asadi noted that the reopening of the facility is an important step forward, but it remains to be seen whether Iran will be successful in exporting its energy.
The South Pars gasfield, located off the coast of Bushehr province, is the largest source of domestic energy for Iran and spans 9,700 square kilometers. The field is shared between Iran and Qatar, with the Iranian side known as South Pars and the Qatari side called the North Field.
