Israeli Bombardment Continues to Claim Lives in Lebanon

Lebanon Reports High Number of Casualties from Israeli Attacks

At least 40 medical workers have been killed in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, according to official reports. The Lebanese Ministry of Health has confirmed that 1,001 people have lost their lives since March 2, including 79 women, 118 children, and 40 healthcare professionals. Over 2,584 people have also been injured.

The situation escalated in early March following the launch of rockets by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah into northern Israel. In response, Israel intensified its bombardment of Lebanon, targeting residential buildings and infrastructure. The military operation has resulted in over one million people being displaced from their homes across southern Lebanon and parts of Beirut.

International organizations have expressed concerns about the impact of the conflict on civilians. A spokesperson for the UN human rights chief stated that international humanitarian law requires distinction between military targets and civilians, as well as feasible precautions to protect civilians. Amnesty International has also urged Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanese healthcare workers and facilities.

The organization’s deputy regional director noted that hospitals, medical facilities, and ambulances are specifically protected under international humanitarian law. However, Israel claims that Hezbollah has been using ambulances for military purposes, which has led to the targeting of these areas. The use of medical personnel as targets is considered a serious violation of international humanitarian law and could potentially be classified as a war crime.
