UN Children’s Fund Calls for Investigation into Fatal Shooting in Gaza
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has expressed concern over the fatal shooting of two drivers who were contracted by the organization to deliver clean water to families in Gaza. The incident occurred on Friday morning at the Mansoura water filling point in northern Gaza, which supplies Gaza City.
According to UNICEF, the attack took place during routine water trucking operations, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring two others. The agency has suspended its activities at the site and is calling on Israeli authorities to investigate the incident and ensure full accountability.
UNICEF stated that “humanitarian workers, essential service providers, and civilian infrastructure must never be targeted.” The organization emphasized that the protection of civilians and those delivering life-saving assistance is an obligation under international humanitarian law.
The incident is part of a broader conflict in Gaza, which has resulted in significant loss of life. Since the ceasefire agreement took effect last October, more than 750 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces. Additionally, over 72,000 people have been killed since Israel launched its military operation against Palestinians in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
Separately, a Palestinian man was shot and killed by Israeli forces in Khirbet Salama in the occupied West Bank, according to reports from the official Palestinian news agency WAFA. The incident occurred after an individual carrying a knife was reportedly seen in the illegal settlement of Negohot.
