Israels military strikes in Gaza continue with little respite for displaced residents

Israeli Forces Conduct Strikes Across Gaza, Violating Ceasefire Agreement

Reports have emerged of Israeli air strikes targeting locations across the Gaza Strip, in contravention of a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States. The strikes, which are part of a near-daily pattern of violations, have been reported to be concentrated in areas north of Rafah and east of Khan Younis.

According to Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary, who is reporting from Gaza City, artillery shelling has also been reported in southern and central regions of the territory. The latest attacks, which number nearly 1,000 since the ceasefire agreement came into force on October 10, have struck close to the tent of a displaced family in the Gaza City neighbourhood of Shujayea.

Heavy winter rains and strong winds have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with aid groups calling for Israeli authorities to lift restrictions on supplies. The Gaza Government Media Office has reported that Israel has committed 969 ceasefire violations since October 10, resulting in the deaths of 418 civilians and injuries to over 1,100.

Displaced Palestinians are struggling to cope with the severe conditions, with tents providing scant protection from the elements. Officials have warned of new dangers, including disease and illness due to contaminated floodwaters and the risk of building collapse amid heavy rain and wind.

In recent days, at least two people have been killed by damaged structures falling amid the severe weather. In a displacement camp east of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, tents have been submerged in muddy water, destroying essential items such as pillows, mattresses, and bedcovers. Residents are struggling to access basic necessities, with many reporting that they have lost their homes and possessions to Israel’s conflict.

The situation on the ground continues to deteriorate, with aid groups urging Israeli authorities to take action to alleviate the suffering of displaced Palestinians.
