Liverpool Appoints Andoni Iraola as New Manager
Liverpool has named Andoni Iraola as its new manager, replacing Arne Slot following the sacking of the latter last Saturday. Iraola will sign a two-year contract with the club.
Iraola expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool, stating that he is drawn to the club’s reputation and history. He also acknowledged that he has gained a deeper understanding of the club during his research process.
The appointment comes after criticism of Slot’s performance in the second season at Anfield. Iraola is expected to adopt a more aggressive style of football, similar to that under former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Iraola previously managed Bournemouth, where he achieved significant improvements in each year of his tenure, including securing qualification for Europe. He also earned praise for his tactics and development of young players.
The new manager has experience playing for Athletic Bilbao before moving to Major League Soccer with New York City. Iraola will now take over at Liverpool, which is currently facing a crossroads after Slot’s departure.
Slot had the task of replacing Klopp, who left in 2024 after winning several titles during his nine-year tenure. The former Feyenoord boss made a strong start but struggled to maintain the team’s performance in the following season.
