North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Comments on Iran’s New Supreme Leader and US-Israeli Attack
A spokesperson from North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader. The spokesperson expressed respect for the Iranian people’s choice in selecting their new leader, stating that Pyongyang respects the right and choice of the Iranian people.
The spokesperson also condemned the recent military attack by the United States and Israel on Iran, describing it as an “unlawful” act. They claimed that this aggression is undermining regional peace and security, increasing instability in the international landscape, and threatening the political system and territorial integrity of a country.
This statement follows a similar condemnation issued by North Korea 12 days ago, which described the US-Israeli attack on Iran as “gangster-like conduct” in the Middle East. The spokesperson’s comments are part of an ongoing diplomatic effort to express Pyongyang’s opposition to the conflict.
Separately, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was reported to have overseen another test-firing of strategic cruise missiles from the country’s latest and largest naval destroyer, Choe Hyon. During the event, Kim emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding a powerful and reliable nuclear war deterrent.
The US has led efforts to dismantle North Korea’s nuclear program for decades, but has had limited influence on Pyongyang, which asserts that such weapons are necessary to prevent any threat of invasion by South Korea and its allies in Washington.
