US Department of Justice Releases Files Related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell
The US Department of Justice has published a series of personal emails between Casey Wasserman, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics chief, and Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The emails, which date back to 2003, were exchanged between Wasserman and Maxwell when Wasserman was married.
According to reports, Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty in 2021 on charges related to sex trafficking of a minor. Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial.
In response to the publication of the emails, Wasserman has issued an apology for her association with both Epstein and Maxwell. She stated that she never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein and regretted her correspondence with Maxwell, which took place before his crimes became public knowledge.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has declined to comment on the matter, citing Wasserman’s statement as sufficient. IOC President Kirsty Coventry noted that while the emails may be distracting, the committee has learned to adapt to such situations in the past and remains focused on the upcoming Games.
Wasserman is a sports and entertainment executive who has been leading the LA28 Olympic project since its inception. She currently serves as chairman of the organising committee, which is set to deliver a progress report to the IOC session on Tuesday. The 2028 Summer Olympics were awarded to Los Angeles in 2017.
