Pakistan and India Set for T20 World Cup Showdown Despite Last-Minute Decision
The highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India at the T20 World Cup is set to take place on Sunday, despite a late decision to proceed with the game. The Islamabad government had initially ordered a boycott of the blockbuster Group A match, but reversed its decision on Monday night.
Pakistan captain Salman Agha stated that his team was always prepared to face India, regardless of the delay in confirmation. “We were always ready for the game,” he said during practice at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The stadium has sold out with 35,000 attendees and millions more expected to watch on television.
Agha acknowledged that the magnitude of the match is significant, but expressed confidence in his team’s abilities. “We have to play good cricket to win the match,” he said. Pakistan had previously won their matches against the Netherlands and the United States, while India has also secured victories in both of its games so far.
Rain is forecast for Sunday evening, which may impact the game. Agha believes that spin will dominate and has identified Tariq Usman as a key player against India’s powerful batting lineup. The Pakistani captain also expressed hope that the players would shake hands before the match, unlike during their previous Asia Cup matches in Dubai.
India is dealing with an injury concern over opener Abhishek Sharma, who is suffering from a stomach bug. Agha wished Sharma well and expressed his team’s desire to compete against the best opponent. The winner of this match will secure their spot in the next Super Eights round.
