FIFA Announces Lineup for Opening Ceremonies at World Cup
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has revealed the performers for the opening ceremonies at the upcoming World Cup. In Mexico, Shakira and Burna Boy will take to the stage for the first of three opening ceremonies, performing the official song “Dai Dai” ahead of the opening match between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa on Thursday.
The ceremony in Mexico City is part of a series of events planned by FIFA, with curtain-raisers also scheduled for games in the United States and Canada. In Toronto, Alanis Morissette will headline alongside Michael Buble on June 12, ahead of the match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Later that day, Katy Perry, LISA, Rema, Anitta, and Future will perform in Los Angeles before the US faces Paraguay.
The opening ceremonies are being produced by Italian producer Marco Balich, who previously worked on the opening ceremony for this year’s Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Each show is expected to take place approximately 90 minutes before kickoff.
Additionally, Shakira has been announced as one of the performers at a Super Bowl-style half-time show for the World Cup final, alongside Madonna and BTS. The event aims to raise $100m in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
