US President Donald Trump has addressed congressional Republicans, stating that the ongoing military campaign against Iran could be resolved “pretty quickly.” The operation, launched on February 28, involves large-scale air and missile strikes on Iranian military infrastructure.
Trump highlighted what he described as the successes of Operation Epic Fury in his speech. He emphasized that the US military’s capabilities would ensure a swift conclusion to the conflict. Trump also mentioned that the recent action had caused a “little pause” in the economy, but stated it was not significant and would quickly recover.
According to Trump, the war on Iran is expected to be finished soon due to the effective work of the US military. He cited progress made during the operation, including the sinking of 46 Iranian naval ships over three and a half days. Trump attributed this outcome to the preference of Iranian forces for sinking rather than capturing enemy vessels.
Trump also claimed that Iran had been preparing to attack the US, although no evidence has been presented to support this assertion. He stated that the missiles aimed at neutral Middle Eastern nations, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, were ultimately directed towards these countries.
The US president also mentioned the killing of several Iranian leaders, stating they are “gone.” Trump connected his speech to his previous operation that assassinated Qassem Soleimani, a key architect of Iran’s regional network. He declared that the US could now declare its military campaign against Iran a success but vowed to continue pursuing ultimate victory.
Trump expressed disappointment over Iran naming Mojtaba Khamenei as Ali Khamenei’s successor as supreme leader, stating it may lead to more of the same problems for the country. When asked if the new leader had a target on his back, Trump deemed it “inappropriate” to comment.
