US Officials Indicate Potential for Delay in Response from Tehran
The United States has sent a revised framework for a potential agreement to end the ongoing conflict with Iran back to be considered by Iranian officials. According to reports, US President Donald Trump made changes to several terms of the proposal, which is now awaiting Iran’s response.
Details of the changes are not yet clear, but sources indicate that Trump sought to reinforce certain aspects of the deal, including the handling of Iran’s nuclear material. A senior US official stated that it could take up to three days for Iran to respond, citing the country’s limited access to modern communication technology.
The proposal had been waiting on Trump’s sign-off following a White House Situation Room meeting on Friday. The US has expressed its priorities for any deal, including Iran’s agreement not to develop nuclear weapons and the reopening of the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials have reiterated their stance that they do not intend to build nuclear weapons. In recent days, the Iranian military has warned foreign vessels that they will be targeted if they fail to comply with regulations governing passage through the strait.
The US and Israel launched a joint operation on February 28, which led to the current conflict. The situation remains unresolved, with negotiations between the parties ongoing.
