Former Judges Urge Investigation into Trump’s Deal with I.R.S.
Thirty-five former judges have filed a request with the court to investigate President Donald Trump’s settlement with the Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.). The group, which includes ex-judges from various federal courts, claims that the deal is “unprecedentedly fraudulent” and calls for an inquiry into its terms.
The settlement, which was reached in 2020, allowed Trump to pay a reduced tax rate of 10% on his business income. Critics have argued that this rate is unusually low and raises questions about the legitimacy of the deal.
In a statement, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) described the settlement as “completely bogus.” The group of former judges has also expressed concerns about the potential implications of the deal for future administrations.
The court will review the request and determine whether to conduct an investigation into the Trump-I.R.S. settlement.
