US Congress asks former UK minister Mandelson to cooperate with Epstein investigation

US Lawmakers Request Cooperation from Former British Ambassador Mandelson in Epstein Investigation

A letter sent by Democratic Representatives Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyam to former British ambassador Peter Mandelson has requested his cooperation in a US congressional investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The lawmakers, members of the House Oversight Committee, have asked Mandelson to submit himself for an interview and answer questions related to his social and business ties with Epstein.

According to the letter, the committee is seeking to uncover information about Epstein’s co-conspirators and enablers, as well as the full extent of his operations. The lawmakers stated that it is “clear” that Mandelson possessed extensive social and business ties to Epstein and holds critical information pertaining to the investigation.

Mandelson assumed the role of UK ambassador in February 2025 but was removed in September after further details about his ties to Epstein emerged. He has since resigned from the Labour Party following intensified scrutiny. The House committee does not have the authority to compel Mandelson’s testimony, but is seeking his cooperation with an expected response by February 27, 2026.

The controversy surrounding Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador has led to calls for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to stand down, with critics questioning his judgment in appointing Mandelson. The scandal has also resulted in the resignation of several senior aides within Starmer’s cabinet, including Chris Wormald and Morgan McSweeney.
