US Denies Visa to DR Congo Superfan for World Cup Appearance

DR Congo Fan Missing World Cup Match Due to Visa Issues

Michel Kuka Mboladinga, a prominent supporter of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s national team, will not be able to attend their upcoming match against Uzbekistan in Atlanta due to visa issues. The fan gained international attention for his unique tribute to Patrice Lumumba, the country’s first prime minister, who was killed in 1961.

Mboladinga’s distinctive style, which includes wearing colourful suits with DR Congo’s colours, has been a notable feature at the team’s matches. He is nicknamed “Lumumba Vea” due to his tribute, and his presence on the terraces has been a source of inspiration for fans.

The Congolese ambassador in Washington, DC, Kapinga Yvette Ngandu, expressed hope that Mboladinga would receive a visa if DR Congo progresses to the knockout stage of the World Cup. She stated that she hoped he would be able to bring his unique brand of support to the team.

Mboladinga’s arrival at the World Cup was delayed due to restrictions imposed on travellers from DRC following an Ebola outbreak in the country. The number of confirmed cases has increased to 1,203, including 321 deaths, according to government data.

The DR Congo national team will face Uzbekistan in their must-win match on Saturday. Mboladinga’s absence is a significant loss for the team, as his unique support has been a notable feature throughout their matches at the World Cup.
