US President Donald Trump’s Administration Launches Military Action Against Venezuela
The United States has taken military action against Venezuela, with President Trump ordering strikes against the country and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro. The actions have drawn reactions from US lawmakers, with some condemning the move as a violation of international law and others defending it as part of an effort to combat drug trafficking.
Democratic lawmakers have expressed concerns about the lack of Congressional oversight and approval for the military action. Senator Tlaib stated that Trump’s actions “violate international law and the U.S. Constitution” and accused US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth of lying about the true intentions behind the pressure campaign against Venezuela.
Senator Kim also criticized the move, saying it does not represent strength and puts Americans at risk in Venezuela and the region. Representative McCollum called on Trump to immediately halt US strikes against Venezuela, stating that the actions taken are “blatantly illegal” and that Congress has not voted to authorize any use of force in the region.
On the other hand, Representative Cotton defended the action, saying it was part of an effort to combat drug trafficking and that Maduro was indicted in US court nearly six years ago for drug trafficking and narco-terrorism. Cotton also appeared to threaten the interim government in Venezuela, urging them to “choose wisely” about whether to continue their current activities or return to a more civilized world.
The US strike against Venezuela has drawn attention from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, with some calling for greater oversight and others defending the action as necessary. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing developments and reactions from US officials and lawmakers.
