US Department of Defense Reports on Wounded Service Members
The US Department of Defense has confirmed that 140 service members have been wounded since the start of the conflict with Iran on February 28. According to a statement released by Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, most of the injuries sustained are minor, with 108 service members having already returned to duty.
Eight service members remain in critical condition and are receiving intensive medical care. The department has also confirmed seven fatalities resulting from Iranian attacks across the region.
The US military has been engaged in a sustained campaign against Iran, which has responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel and US bases in the Middle East. President Donald Trump has stated that the war is “very complete” and will soon come to an end.
However, his aides have clarified that the military campaign is ongoing and will continue until all objectives are met. The White House has reiterated that the assault is progressing ahead of schedule, with the goal of destroying Iran’s missiles and naval capabilities, permanently denying them nuclear weapons, and weakening their terrorist proxies in the region.
The US President has stated that he will determine when Iran is deemed to have surrendered unconditionally, when they no longer pose a credible threat to the United States and its allies.
